On May 6th, our New York-Presbyterian (NYP) partners performed Clinical Room Checks to assess building readiness at the Alexandra Cohen Hospital for Women and Newborns. Established as a best practice, HTS has found that conducting room checks two weeks after construction’s substantial completion allows for early discovery of building issues. Encouraging clinical staff to test basic room functions such as flushing toilets, turning on lights, testing water temperature, opening/closing lockers, and checking doors and hardware allows them to identify issues while orienting them to their new space. In addition to engaging the clinical teams to check their space, HTS implements an electronic room check process using FreightTrain FitUp software, facilitating quick and accurate issue documentation, including pictures, to report their findings. The NYP clinical staff did an amazing job surveying hundreds of rooms, checking off building items that passed their expectations and logging issues for features that were damaged, missing, or not functioning as expected. Keep up the great work!
