The Mount Carmel East New Patient Tower is open! The HTS Transition Planning Team of Melanie Viquez and Cindy Smith, project managers, and Lisa Martinez, project coordinator with strong support from the bigger Transition Planning organization led by HTS Project Director Becky Sales and Manager/Move Specialist, Jonathan Ahmadi, along with the transition planning facilitators successfully helped the Mount Carmel East leadership and staff activate their new facility this weekend. HTS facilitated the patient relocation of 120 patients, including four intensive care units on Saturday, June 2, and 57 patients the following day. Renovation of vacated existing units starts Monday, June 4, 2018.
Becky expressed pride in “the team’s expertise, experience, dedication to patient care, and hard work despite the long hours during the past week culminating in the weekend move. They made the event a big achievement for all involved this past week and weekend.”
The new patient tower is six floors with 128 single-bed rooms. Staff worked with the architects to ensure the design is efficient and focused on patient care. CEO Michael Wilkins, in an interview with local TV station TV 10, said, “A lot of attention was paid to safety and patient comfort. We’ve also tried to create workflows and use technology to keep caregivers as close to the patient as possible. Nurses stations have been decentralized so there is a station outside of every room. Patient rooms are glass so caregivers can see the patients. Many steps were also taken in the design to eliminate the spread of infection. Operating rooms are bigger to accommodate new technology and more staff in surgeries.”
